Dear DACeL delegates
Due to the unprecedented closure of European air space as a result of the Icelandic volcanic eruption the conference organisors felt that postponing the conference is the only responsible course of action. It would appear that there is little realistic chance of the air travel restrictions being lifted on any large scale before the start of the conference. We are also mindful of the possbility that the eruptions could worsen with the result that delegates who are able to attend the conference could potentially find themselves unable to leave the Netherlands for a time should the situation deteriorate further.
It was therefore decided that, by providing a timely notification of the postponement of the conference, the majority of delegates will be able to cancel or postpone their travel arrangements. DACEL will refund all registration fees for this event.
The Organising Committee will make an announcement as soon as possible about an alternative date for the Conference at a later stage in the year. we will do our utmost to organise an alternative if at all possible.
We will contact all delegates directly via email with this information. We apologise for any inconvenience which this will have caused you but we trust that you appreciate this is an instance of 'force majeur' over which we have no control.

Important Information for Conference Participants.
Walking Tours of Delft for delegates:
The committee is orgainising some walking tours of Delft.
Battlefield Tour
As with our first Conference in Stellenbosch, we are planning to again organise a battlefield tour either before or after the conference at a modest cost.
For DACeL 2010 we are planning for a World War I and/or World War II battlefield tour. At this point a tour of Ypres and Amiens, for example, is a distinct possibility.
We will have a military historian as guide and transport will be provided at cost on a first come, first serve basis.
Should you be interested please indicate your preference of battlefields and timing before or after the conference by contacting, at your earliest opportunity, Dr Henk Eijkman at h.eijkman@adfa.edu.au
Kerynote Speakers
Professor Stephen Heppell will be one of two Keynote Speakers at the Conference. See the program page for more information.
Dr. Peter Sloep will also be a guest Speaker at the conference. See the program page for more information.
